What I love about STAX is that the game teaches you how to realistically grow your money via saving & investing! The premise reminds me of Monopoly because you play against opponent(s) either real or AI to see who can generate the highest net worth. In the beginning you are given a set amount of disposable income and a time frame of 20 years to generate as much money as possible. You start off by gaining access to a savings account. As you progress in the game you gain additional knowledge. This unlock multiple avenues to grow your money such as bonds, index funds, CD’s, and individual stocks. Every time you unlock a resource, the pros and cons associated with it are explained. For example, savings accounts are safe places to park your money and are easily accessible during emergencies. On the flip side, they typically produce significantly less profits and grow very slowly. There are also random situations that will come up such as paying for lessons, funding random emergencies, inheriting money, etc. When those situations arise, you have to determine where to withdraw the money from, which can significantly impact your progress.
At the end of the game you’ll receive an in depth analysis of your portfolio that’s crafted with actual data taken from previous years. Even with the data, please keep in mind that the game will always remain completely speculative in regards to future performance. Despite this, STAX does a phenomenal job demonstrating how where you choose to store your money can significantly impact your net worth. Check it out!
